Sick Policy

GUIDELINES & PROTOCOLS

Sick Policy and Covid Guidelines

Scholars must remain home if ill. Students who are experiencing any of the following symptoms should remain at home until they are symptom-free for at least 24-hours without medication or provide a doctor’s note clearing them to return:

  • elevated temperature (fever), chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, worsening cough, runny nose, vomiting or nausea, headache, pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Students may return to school when they are symptom-free for at least 24-hours without medication or provide a doctor’s note confirming they are no longer contagious and can safely attend school.

To ensure the health and well-being of all students and staff, the following policy applies when a student becomes ill during the school day:

  • Parent Guardian Notifications: if a student is determined to be too ill to remain in school the parent of guardian will be notified by the school office or nurse.
  • Timely Pick-Up Required: Parents or guardians are required to pick up their child within one hour of being notified.
  • Emergency Contacts: If a parent or guardian is unavailable, an emergency contact listed on the student’s file will be called to arrange pick-up.
  • Returning to School: Students should only return to school once they are symptom-free and meet any additional health guidelines set by the school. By adhering to this policy, we can help maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.

These protocols were established by the Office of Education and the Allegheny East Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists Emergency Team for the notification of infectious diseases within a classroom. COVID-19 Contact Tracing protocols dictate that in order for students to return to school they will need a Negative PCR test (not the Rapid Test) before returning to school. In addition, the following protocols are in place:

    1. The local public health department has been notified.
    2. Anyone who has been in contact with the infected person in excess of 15 minutes within a distance less than 6ft will quarantine or obtain a negative PCR COVID test.
    3. If an exposed person refuses to be tested, they will quarantine for 14 calendar days.
    4. All persons in the building will continue to wear masks at all times while maintaining 6ft physical distancing.

Scholars and teachers experiencing the following symptoms will be required to get a COVID test, and provide negative test results before returning to school.
